DBZ: Battle of the Gods KAMEHAMEHAAAAA

For an anime film I watched the movie Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods. Let me geek out for a moment: The Dragon Ball franchise started out as a manga series created by Akira Toriyama and was made into an anime series by Toei Animation which started in 1989. The anime was split into four main series: Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Z Kai. All of these are essentially about one guy named Goku (Son Goku) who is a super human fighter from a different planet. He is of the race known as "saiyan" these people have tremendous fighting abilities far superior to that of humans. The series follows his friends and him as they fight super powered robots and aliens. There are about 500 episodes of the series not counting the remakes/abridgments (Dragon Ball Z Kai), I have seen all of them (this accounts to approximately 10,000 minutes of my life if each episode is 20 min). There have also been many movies made from the series including the most recent Battle of the Gods which was released in Japan this past March. It should also be noted that all episodes are first broadcasted in Japan and then in the US if popular enough (as is with most Japanese based anime). You may now judge me.
This movie is all about how the god of destruction, Bills, awakes from a great sleep and wants to fight the super saiyan god that he dreamed about while sleeping. He travels to earth seeking out this "god" and can find no one who fits the description, although Goku comes close for he is a super saiyan just not a "god". Bills gets bored with the whole situation and decides he will leave earth however he will destroy it on his way out. Goku then takes is upon himself to defeat Bills so that earth can be saved. He summons Chenron (giant Dragon that grants wishes) from the dragon balls and asks how to become a super saiyan god. Goku then turns into a super saiyan god by having five other good hearted saiyans (not including himself) channel their energy into him. The rest of the movie is just an epic battle between Goku and Bills. Although Goku does not outright win he impresses Bills enough that Bills leaves the earth alone. Goku saves the earth once again as he always does. (Yes I realize that most people reading this right now are very confused, too bad go watch a few epsiodes and you will understand so much better)
This movie is great because it has a certain suspense to it that other DBZ movies do not have. In other movies, it can easily be seen that Goku will save the day at the end of it. However, in this one Goku never really wins and the only reason that the earth is saved is out of the mercy of Bills and the impression Goku put on him. The movie has some good humor in it that would be considered a little harsh for an anime that was intended for kids (as usual it is with the perverted character Master Roshi). The movie may also seem cheesy to some but is important to remember that it was designed for kids and not necessarily teens and adults (although I thoroughly enjoyed it).
The obvious theme of this movie is the battle. The whole movie revolves around the great battle that takes place between Goku and Bills. It also has a theme of a savior as most DBZ movies/sagas have. Goku takes on a savior role quite often and seems to save the world every other day.
I would recommend this movie to people who know about Dragon Ball but not really to those who do not know much about the series. This is because if one does not have the standard DBZ background knowledge it can be extremely confusing, go educate yourself about DBZ before watching this. However for those who know what they are watching it is one of the better DBZ movies and it gives some important closing details to the Dragon Ball Z. This movie gets 9 out of 10 Dragon Balls.
