I Now Understand the Obsession with Star Wars...

Now I have to debate on whether homework is more important than watching more Star Wars episodes... I did not think this one through. Our story begins with a young Luke Skywalker who is practically pulled against his will on an adventure with Obi-Wan Kanobi, an old Jedi knight, and two droids (R2-D2 and C-3PO). The four collaborate with Han Solo (a space pilot) and Chewbacca (a wookie) offering them cash rewards to help them save Princess Leia from the clutches of the evil Darth Vader on his rampage to destroy the entire space empire. In the end, good conquers evil and the team saves Princess Leia, but not without a cost: the life of Obe-Wan. This war is far from over.
There were many pluses about this movie beside its already killer plot. For example, the shot techniques and special effects were fantastic especially for the 70's ( released in 1977). The costumes and makeup were outstanding as well. Director, George Lucas, truly did an outstanding job of creating an entirely new and authentic world to set his film in.
Really the only negative I can think of is the somewhat over-acting of main characters Luke and Leia portrayed by Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Hamill's character Luke seemed a bit whiny for my taste and though he did show an undeniable growth towards the end of the film, he was not at all the heroic Luke Skywalker I had previously imagined. Fisher took her resistance against being the typical damsel in distress a bit overboard making her character appear, at least to me,  a bit ungrateful and highly critical especially in regards to Solo. Power to her for trying to be witty and brave but it made her come off as a spoiled space brat to those who risked their lives to save her.
Overall I loved this movie and can't wait to see more of the films, time-allowing of course. I give this movie 4 out of 5 light sabers.
