The Godfather

The Godfather centers on the Corleone family.  It follows all the events of the Corleone family over the span of a few years.  I did not particularly like it.  I felt that the plot was long, boring, and stretched out.  Despite the fact that there were a few scenes that got my attention and pulled me in, most of the movie bored me.  The main thing that kept me interested in the movie for the first two hours was what others have said about it being a great movie.  Also, at times the transition in time was choppy and I feel like the movie went too fast without telling the audience what was going on—such as when Michael returned from Italy and visited Kay a year later, and then five minutes later they were in the car together with their child.  I also did not like how there was no major conflict brought out in the beginning to drive the movie forward.  There was no goal for the Corleone family to achieve.  It was just a melting pot of different events.  The most prevalent theme in this movie is the battle.  Although there is no one literal battle, the five families constantly fight to protect and control their interests.  They especially do this after Michael kills Sollozzo and McCluskey up until Don Corleone puts an end to the fighting.  I would give this movie a 2 out of 5.
