The Origin of Snow

Edward Scissorhands exemplifies everything that Tim Burton stands for as a director and cinematographer. A story that is about a person who is not even truly human, a crazy inventor with a steampunk house, and an unlikely love that flourishes through a very natural way. Hopes are already set high because of the cast which includes, Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder. Bigger even than the cast is that Tim Burton is the director, the perfect man for such a screenplay. Scissorhands has a very interesting take on suburban society and the pressures that can come with it. Lies and misrepresentation is are constants within Edward's life.

It is hard for Edward to acclimate to his new social life he has seemingly been forced into. When Edward realizes then being special and having his "Scissor Hands" is what made him talented and desired by everyone is the time when things go sour. After embracing his uniqueness people attempt to take advantage of him, when he does not do the corrupt things that others wish of him they spread rumors all over the town. It is impossible for anyone to live up to every expectation put onto them, but the people of this town believe that is exactly what Edward can be for them.

After all this action the viewer is finally shown Edward's downfall, which in reality is not a terrible fate. He is "exiled" back to the manor where he was first found, this was only possible because the townsfolk believed him dead. Edward did receive what he was after the whole movie, the love of the beautiful Kim (Winona Ryder), and we see that her admiration of him kept on for her entire life. Edward Scissorhands is a great movie even though it is often quirky. The quirkyness is the flavor Tim Burton brings to the table and only makes the movie better through a feeling of innocence. I give Edward Scissorhands an 8/10, a great watch.
